Skills
Since
starting AS media, I have learnt a number of skills, them being in
photography, using the iMac, and looking at different aspects of
media. I’ve learnt a selection of terms that are used in the media,
for example, semiotics, and codes and conventions and masthead; we’ve
also studied closely at genres, and how to identify them. On the macs
we’ve been using adobe elements 11, which is a photo editor, we
used this for our front cover for our college magazine and also the
contents page, at first it was difficult to understand but once we
studied it harder it became clearer. However there are some tools I’m
still not too sure on. We’ve worked on photography.

Preliminary Task
Preliminary Task - Magazine front cover.
This is my front cover of my magazine. It was my first time designing a front cover of a magazine, as well as my first time using adobe elements 11.
Firstly I uploaded the photograph on to the iMac before deciding how to edit it. My front cover is made up of many layers, using adobe elements. I made up the Masthead, and tried to link it to the target audience, which was college pupils. I tried to use a bit of world play with the masthead, as the magazine's target audience is for college students and i wanted to the target audience to feel involved so i came up with 'YOUth'. The representation of the model is suited towards the college pupils, he's posed very casual and clean cut. He's not in-your-face. And even though you can't see a lot of his clothes, you can see he isn't dressed in an inappropriate way and his clothes are very casual, which suits the idea of a college magazine. I didn't finish my front cover but from the work I did, you can see that the background suits the purpose and also the text is readable and clear. 'Outstanding A-level results' is a cover story, this is to show audience what is included in this magazine.
