Models update

For my magazine I will be using a variety of different models, I will be using, my friends Lucy and Jade, Beth from upper sixth and a few other models if needed. For my front cover I will be using my sister; Katie, featuring my little brother; Jake, as he is too young to be my main model. I have decided on these models as they are all aged in my target audience age range (apart from Jake, who I will be using for my dps article, as it will mention about home life) and will relate to my audience.

Camera work

On a camera I have now found out there are many different settings for different kinds of shoots, eg. auto, and you can also set it for indoor and outdoor use. The different kind of setting you use, the better the outcome of the shoot.

There are many different kinds of shots you can use, such as:

- Extreme close up
- Big close up
- Close up
- Medium close up
- Medium shot
- Medium long shot
- Long shot
- Very long shot

    And so on..

ISO - Controls the sensitivity of your camera's sensor to light.

Aperture - Controls the area over which light can enter through your lens.

Shutter speed - Controls the duration of the exposure (how much light is allowed to reach the sensor).

Getting to grips with my camera

Before my shoot I had to get to know my camera as even though it's my own camera, its new, as my last camera was very basic and I thought I would benefit from having a new photographic camera and I'm still getting to grips with it. Now I am a bit more familiar with it but I am still getting used to it.

Masthead problems!

Becka and I were deciding what to call out magazine, and we came up with Rhythm. However when researching further we discovered that Rhythm is already an existing magazine, this caused a problem as we couldn't think of what else to call our magazine, and we had to rethink our Masthead name.

Codes and conventions

Collections of signs in specific form such as speaking (sound signs) writing (word signs) and pictures (image signs) are known as codes
There are:
- Codes of expression and gestures in interaction
- Codes of spelling and grammar in writing
- Codes of camera work and editing in film making
- Codes of dress for work and play
- Codes of composition in painting, photography and film making

For my magazine, I decided to

Getting to know Adobe Elements 11

When I started this course, I didn't really have a clue how to work with Adobe, as I've never used it before, but now I have learnt a number of things to help me when making my magazine pages. I have learnt how to cut a person out and place them on a plain background, which is a perfect skill for making a magazine, I have also learnt how to save a piece of work probably, as a photoshop document and also a jpeg.

Masthead Ideas

Looking at existing magazines eg. Vibe, Becka and I have decided to change the colour of the font for ever issue but maintain the same style font. If you look at the images below you can see that Vibe magazine change the colour of the masthead in every issue, but the font style is always the same.

Ideas Update

After talking to Becka about our magazine, we have decided I will still be doing the December issue but Becka will be now doing a November issue, instead of October.

Signs and Semiotics

Signs can be anything which gives meaning, this includes words, pictures, colours, sounds, clothes, body language etc. For example x is a sign which can mean, the 24th letter of the alphabet, it can signify errors on an exam paper, or a kiss on text or birthday cars etc..

In my magazine I have put a treble clef in the masthead in of 'LYRIC' to link to the fact is it a music magazine. I have used a tank as a prop as even though my magazine is a pop, it is for an older audience and I would like my model/artist to appeal to them, so I have made her look more "punky".

Location

These are some examples of where I may shoot my photo shoot for my magazine, I may even us a blank background in some shots.

Make up and hair

These are some examples of how I would like my models make up and hair to be like for my magazine.

Some props i may use for my photo shoots

As my magazine is a music magazine, it would be appropriate to use some props that musicians use. Therefore I may use a guitar and a microphone, and maybe some other props, eg. drums..

Copy of Q contents page

Using adobe elements 11, I tried to copy this contents page, just using different images, this has given me many skills on the application, and I feel more confident with it now.

Photo inspirations / Model image

These two images are examples of how I want a few of my models posing for my magazine. They appeal to my target audience as they are popular artist from chart music that my audience mainly listen to.

Initial ideas update

I am working with Becka on my magazine, as we are both publishing the same magazine just a different issue, I am doing a christmas issue and Becka is doing a Halloween issue, we are basing or music magazine genre on our favourite genre, which is pop, we are making a magazine that appeals to both genders aged 16-21. We are doing this, because we feel that there isn't a magazine out there, which targets both genders of this age range.

Target Audience Research analysis

From these results i can see that most people are focused on the main image over anything else on the front cover of a music magazine, also most people i surveyed would read a music magazine to read about upcoming gigs/festivals, followed by reading about your favourite celebrities. Most people associate pink with pop followed by yellow. Most people would buy a music magazine monthly, which is good because i would publish my magazine monthly. The people i surveyed would most likely want to read about gossip. and most people i surveyed are on Facebook, Twitter and also Instagram.

Target Audience Survey

This is my target audience survey, i asked several people of both genders aged 16-21.

Problems with blogger

I am finding posting on the blog difficult because I struggle to post from home as when I type all my work out and click publish it sometimes doesn't work, therefore I have to type all my work from my laptop on work and put it on a memory stick, take it to school and post it there.

Initial ideas

I'm going to be making a music magazine and up to now i haven't got a name for my magazine, but i have chosen to base my magazine on the American magazine 'Billboard' and the English equivalent 'Q'. I have to chosen to base my magazine on these magazines as i like the genre of both magazine as it is a variety of older pop. Also I think the target audience group (17-21) for these magazines are nice because I don't think there are many magazines out there with this target audience age range. Obviously the magazines can appeal to other generations but mainly to 17-21 year olds. I will used colours that stand out and catches peoples attention.

My pitch to Bauer Media
Hi my name is Ellie and I'd like to present my Music magazine to you, called Rhythm. I have done some research into your company and I discovered you don't publish that many magazines similar to Rhythm, and I think that your company would benefit from publishing my magazine. The genre of Rhythm is pop, and I would like to target my audience for both genders, in the 16 -21 age range, I think this is a suitable target audience for a magazine as I don't think there is a magazine that targets both genders in this age range.
